Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Patent Associate with an academic background in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline. This role is ideal for candidates with 2–5 years of experience in patent prosecution who are passionate about supporting clients across a broad range of industries including software, wireless communications, semiconductors, and medical devices. The position provides hands-on opportunities in patent drafting, strategic IP counseling, and cross-functional matters involving litigation and transactions. Duties:
Draft and prosecute patent applications across U.S. and international jurisdictions
Advise clients on patent strategy and IP portfolio management
Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and prior art analyses
Collaborate with legal teams on IP litigation and transactional matters
Stay current with developments in IP law and emerging technologies
Engage in firm-sponsored community, DE&I, and pro bono initiatives
Requirements:
2–5 years of patent prosecution experience as an attorney or in combination with agent experience
Exposure to a variety of technologies including software, wireless systems, optics, semiconductors, and medical devices
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical and legal concepts clearly and persuasively
Capable of managing multiple deadlines and projects efficiently
Strong sense of initiative and teamwork in a fast-paced legal environment
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related technical field
Certifications:
Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Active member of the state bar for the relevant office location, or eligible for admission
