Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking a Real Estate Associate to join its Affordable Housing and Community Development Practice Group in the Washington, DC office. This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated real estate transactions with a focus on affordable housing finance. The ideal candidate will have experience in multifamily and/or commercial real estate transactions, particularly with agency financing programs such as Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, or FHA. Duties:
Represent lenders, developers, and property owners in complex affordable housing and multifamily real estate transactions
Draft, negotiate, and review transactional documents including loan agreements, financing documents, and closing materials
Provide legal counsel on agency financing matters (Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, FHA)
Conduct due diligence and risk assessments for affordable housing transactions
Support structuring and closing of deals involving low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC), tax-exempt bond financing, and HUD subsidy programs
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders throughout transaction lifecycles
Maintain up-to-date knowledge on affordable housing programs and related federal regulations
Requirements:
2–4 years of experience in multifamily and/or commercial real estate law
Experience working on transactions involving Freddie Mac and/or Fannie Mae financing (preferred)
Familiarity with affordable housing development, agency programs, or tax credit financing (a plus)
Demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate real estate finance documents
Commitment to client service and strong teamwork in a collaborative environment
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from a nationally accredited law school
Certifications:
Active member of the Washington, DC Bar or eligible for immediate waiver
Skills:
Strong drafting, negotiation, and legal analysis skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to manage complex transactions with attention to detail and efficiency
Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently when necessary
Proven research and problem-solving capabilities in real estate and finance contexts
