Senior-Level Affordable Housing Associate Attorney
A distinguished law firm based in Washington, D.C. is actively seeking a senior legal professional to support its Affordable Housing and Community Development practice. The selected candidate will work with a broad mix of stakeholders including developers, investors, and public entities to navigate complex housing initiatives across the country. The position emphasizes strategic deal structuring, transactional leadership, and high-level client engagement.
Guide multifaceted housing projects involving public and private sector collaboration
Structure, negotiate, and manage transactions involving Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), including 4% and 9% deals
Oversee acquisitions, refinancing, exits, and dispositions related to affordable housing portfolios
Engage in comprehensive project development activities issue spotting, due diligence, document drafting, and review
Represent parties across the housing transaction spectrum developers, institutional investors, and financing entities
Lead legal strategy and transaction execution while maintaining high standards of responsiveness and client service
Foster direct and collaborative relationships with clients and other involved parties
Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant legal experience with a concentration on affordable housing finance and development
Substantive familiarity with housing-related incentives, compliance frameworks, and deal structuring
Proven ability to independently manage and close complex deals
Demonstrated aptitude for high-pressure transactional work and working under compressed timelines
Proficiency in both written and oral legal communication in a professional setting
Experience working across diverse stakeholder groups preferred
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law institution
Active Bar membership in the District of Columbia (D.C.)
Advanced understanding of affordable housing finance instruments and regulatory structures
Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills
Strong interpersonal skills for client interaction and internal collaboration
Detail-oriented mindset with the capacity to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously
Ability to anticipate legal issues in housing transactions and propose innovative solutions
