Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A well-established law firm in New Haven, CT, is seeking an Associate Attorney with at least two years of experience in trusts and estates law. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in special needs planning and be eager to work in a dynamic, nationally recognized private client practice. The role offers an opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary team addressing complex legal issues related to estate planning, wealth transfer, fiduciary matters, and charitable giving, within a collaborative hybrid work environment.

Duties:

  • Handle legal matters involving estate planning, trust administration, and succession planning

  • Provide counsel on matters involving special needs planning and fiduciary responsibilities

  • Assist with estate and income taxation strategies, retirement asset planning, and charitable giving

  • Collaborate with attorneys from other disciplines, such as corporate, tax, and real estate

  • Work with clients including high-net-worth individuals, family offices, fiduciaries, and nonprofit organizations

  • Contribute to the development of tailored solutions for clients’ personal and business objectives

  • Participate in the administration of complex estates and trusts

  • Engage in mentorship opportunities and participate in professional development initiatives

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant legal experience in trusts and estates planning and administration

  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in planning for individuals with special needs

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently

  • Proven problem-solving capabilities and ability to develop innovative legal strategies

  • Membership in the Connecticut State Bar in good standing (required)

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Connecticut Bar Admission (required)

  • Additional certifications in estate planning or elder law (preferred)

Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of estate and tax laws

  • Familiarity with succession and wealth transfer strategies

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills

  • Comfort working in a team-based, cross-functional legal environment

  • Proficiency in legal research tools and estate planning software

Job Location:
