Nurse Director Risk/Patient Safety
Duties: Responsible for proactively evaluating areas of organizational risk based on internal assessments and external benchmarking. Responsible for facilitation and execution of clinical risk management / patient safety goals and objectives related to risk identification, loss prevention, and control. Accountable for managing all phases of patient safety/quality improvement projects aimed at mitigating risk and system vulnerabilities including the design, prioritization, staffing, development, implementation, analysis, and reporting. Prepares reports on safety issues, professional liability cases and risk management patterns, trends and issues. Serves as a liaison to Regional Risk Managers, Risk Finance and Legal. Develops and delivers educational content to promote proactive risk management and patient safety. Facilitates efforts to promulgate operational excellence methodology to achieve and sustain HRO principles across the enterprise. Functions as an expert authority to physicians and other staff regarding risk/ patient safety issues. Supports the VP in management of QRM and represents VP in his/her absence. Manages team of Quality Nurse Consultants and Risk/Patient Principal Consultants to ensure success in meeting defined operational goals and objectives. Assists in developing strategic direction and plan for business unit within area of accountability. In collaboration with key stakeholders, assesses relevant legislation, industry trends, and internal opportunities and develops recommendations and plans to minimize organizational liability and improve safety. Staffs National Patient Safety/Risk Management Committees and integrates outcomes with relevant peer groups and initiatives program wide. Provides guidance and direction to RM/PS Consultants for ongoing monitoring and analysis of quality/patient safety indicators, risk trends. Responsible for developing compelling and actionable reports to assist regions in identifying risks safety hazards and opportunities for clinical system and care delivery improvements. Establishes strategic partnerships with key stakeholders impacting clinical risk management / patient safety (e.g. regional risk managers, compliance, patient safety, legal, pharmacy, nursing, TPMG clinical/safety leads) to facilitate the successful adoption and improvement of program priorities. Directs integration of trends and learnings from patient safety /risk management events and establishes formal communication process to disseminate learnings. Establishes evidence- based education programs focused on observed organizational risks and system vulnerabilities. Develops and aligns educational activities to influence provider behavior to improve patient safety. Provides national leadership and expert consultation on the design, development, and implementation of processes and programs related to risk management and patient safety. Directs large-scale process improvement efforts designed to facilitate key organizational objectives. Develops and maintains the National Risk Management / Patient Safety Standard in partnership with key stakeholders, and acts as National QR/PS liaison to all regions to ensure consistent and correct interpretation and implementation of internal standards.
