Job Overview:

A law firm in Portland, OR, seeks a highly skilled and experienced Biotechnology Patent Agent. The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in biological sciences, preferably a Ph.D., and have a strong track record of prosecuting patent applications related to biotechnology. Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications related to biotechnology innovations.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Draft and review patent claims and specifications to ensure they meet legal and technical standards.
  • Communicate with clients to gather technical information and provide updates on patent applications.
  • Collaborate with legal and technical teams to develop strategies for patent protection.
  • Advise clients on patent-related issues and potential IP risks.
  • Manage and track patent application deadlines and ensure timely responses to office actions.
  • Stay current with developments in biotechnology and patent law.

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in biological sciences (Ph.D. preferred).
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in prosecuting biotechnology patent applications.
  • Excellent academic credentials and a strong understanding of biotechnology.
  • Proven ability to draft and prosecute patent applications effectively.

Education:

  • Advanced degree in biological sciences (Ph.D. preferred).

Skills:

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with clients and team members.
  • In-depth knowledge of biotechnology and related patent laws.
  • Ability to analyze complex scientific and technical information.
  • Proficiency in patent prosecution and application procedures.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
