Chemistry Patent Agent

Profile

A law firm in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Chemistry Patent Agent with a strong background in chemical engineering or chemistry. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in patent prosecution, including drafting patent applications and conducting due diligence. This role requires excellent analytical and writing skills, strong organizational abilities, and effective communication skills. The Chemistry Patent Agent will work closely with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to manage intellectual property matters and ensure high-quality legal support.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications related to chemical engineering and chemistry.
• Conduct thorough patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
• Perform due diligence, including prior art searches and legal research, to support patent applications.
• Collaborate with inventors and legal professionals to develop patent strategies and address complex issues.
• Manage patent files, documentation, and correspondence with attention to detail.
• Communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, business professionals, and third parties, both verbally and in writing.
• Produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and respond to correspondence efficiently and professionally.
• Participate in digital/virtual conference calls and meetings as required.
• Provide timely, accurate, and high-quality work product.
• Perform additional duties, tasks, or projects as assigned.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in patent prosecution, including drafting patent applications and performing due diligence.
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
• Registration with the USPTO.
• Direct and applicable experience in a large or mid-sized law firm.
• Strong analytical and writing skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
• Research and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective management of tasks and projects.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.

Certifications:

• Registration with the USPTO.
