Job Overview

An international law firm is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Associate to join its Business Restructuring & Special Situations group in New York office. This role involves handling complex in-court and out-of-court debt restructurings, including Chapter 11 and Chapter 15 matters, often with a cross-border or international focus. The associate will engage in both transactional and litigation work. Ideal candidates are driven, detail-oriented, and possess strong legal research, writing, and interpersonal skills. A bankruptcy court clerkship is highly valued.

Duties

  • Handle corporate restructurings, including Chapter 11 and Chapter 15 proceedings

  • Assist in both transactional and litigation components of restructuring matters

  • Manage cross-border and international restructuring assignments

  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, and court filings

  • Participate in client meetings, strategy sessions, hearings, and negotiations

  • Collaborate closely with senior attorneys and multidisciplinary teams

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in restructuring, insolvency, or related practice areas

  • Experience in both litigation and transactional matters is a plus

  • Familiarity with cross-border bankruptcy and special situations preferred

  • Strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple deadlines

  • Prior bankruptcy court clerkship preferred

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications

  • Admission to the Bar in New York (or eligibility to waive in)

Skills

  • Excellent legal research and writing capabilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • High attention to detail and ability to work independently

  • Proficiency in managing complex case files and legal documentation

  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to problem solving
