Job Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in New Haven, CT seeks a highly experienced Patent Agent to contribute to its dynamic Intellectual Property team. The role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge innovations, especially in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors, in collaboration with legal professionals and scientific stakeholders.

Duties:

• Review and assess new inventions to determine their patentability across diverse scientific domains

• Draft and file patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

• Manage the prosecution of U.S. patent applications and coordinate with international partners for foreign filings

• Support patent due diligence reviews and long-term IP portfolio strategies

• Perform legal and technical research on intellectual property issues

• Work with internal legal teams, clients, and external partners to develop and execute IP strategies

• Serve as an internal liaison across departments and maintain regular engagement with external legal counterparts

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or corporate IP department

• Prior work involving life sciences technologies such as biotech, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices

• Eligibility to sit for or current registration with the USPTO

• Familiarity with mechanical or electrical patent matters is advantageous

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences field (e.g., biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or a closely related area)

Certifications:

• USPTO registration (or pending eligibility)
