Job Overview:
A reputable law firm based in San Diego, CA is actively seeking an experienced Immigration Attorney to lead its growing immigration practice. This position is geared toward attorneys with a strong background in deportation defense and asylum cases. The role offers a unique opportunity to shape and expand an impactful immigration law practice within a supportive and mission-driven legal team. This is a hybrid role with in-office presence required in San Diego.
Location:
San Diego, California
Duties:
Represent clients in removal proceedings, including asylum, withholding of removal, and CAT applications
Prepare motions, briefs, and supporting filings for immigration court and USCIS
Conduct detailed client interviews and draft declarations
Handle master calendar hearings, individual hearings, and bond proceedings
Track and manage deadlines for a full caseload
Collaborate with legal support staff and external partners to ensure effective case strategies
Stay informed on changes in immigration law and policy
Contribute to the growth and strategic direction of the firm's immigration practice
Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in immigration law
Prior experience handling removal proceedings, asylum cases, and humanitarian relief
Proficiency in representing clients before EOIR and USCIS
Comfortable managing a high-volume caseload independently
Experience working with vulnerable or trauma-affected populations
Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred
Experience with detained representation and bond hearings
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Active license to practice law in the State of California
Skills:
Strong legal writing and advocacy abilities
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Client-focused communication, especially in high-stress situations
Ability to work collaboratively within a legal team
Familiarity with family-based immigration petitions and humanitarian relief such as VAWA, U-visas, T-visas, and SIJS (preferred)
