A law firm seeks a skilled Intellectual Property (IP) attorney to join its team in Des Moines, IA. This is an exciting opportunity for an attorney with a strong background in patent law, including preparation and prosecution of patent applications. The successful candidate will also have the chance to expand their experience in the areas of copyright, trademark, and trade secrets. The firm is looking for someone passionate about intellectual property law and eager to contribute to a growing and dynamic practice.

Duties:

• Conduct patentability assessments and prepare patent applications for filing.
• Prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Advise clients on IP-related matters including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.
• Handle licensing agreements and other IP transactions.
• Collaborate with other attorneys on IP litigation and transactional matters.
• Maintain strong client relationships and provide legal guidance on complex IP issues.
• Stay up-to-date with changes in IP law and continuously improve skills in the field.

Requirements:

• Must be registered with the federal patent bar.
• At least 2 years of experience in patent application preparation and prosecution.
• Strong experience in patentability analysis and intellectual property law.
• Experience with copyright and trademark registration and prosecution is a plus.
• Ability to work on IP matters across multiple technical areas.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on client relationships.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to continue learning and developing professionally.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• A technical background in engineering, computer science, or a related field is preferred.

Certifications:

• Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
