Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm is seeking a Family Law Associate Attorney to join its litigation team in Columbia, Missouri. This position offers the opportunity to handle a broad range of family law matters-including high-net-worth divorce, custody disputes, domestic abuse cases, and enforcement actions-within a fast-paced, client-focused practice. Ideal candidates will bring a strong civil litigation background and a passion for advocacy, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Location:

• Columbia, Missouri

Duties:

• Provide litigation support and strategic input as second chair in complex family law cases

• Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, and trials

• Handle a variety of family law matters including:

  • Dissolution of marriage

  • Child custody and support

  • Enforcement and modification of judgments

  • Domestic violence cases

• Conduct legal research and draft persuasive legal arguments, motions, and court filings

• Maintain ongoing client communication and manage evolving legal strategies

• Manage multiple case files, court deadlines, and internal billing responsibilities

• Collaborate with attorneys and support staff to deliver effective legal representation

• Handle sensitive family law issues with discretion and professionalism

Requirements:

• 2-4 years of experience representing parties in complex family law matters

• Family law experience preferred but not required

• Demonstrated courtroom and litigation skills

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines

• Experience in negotiation and dispute resolution (preferred)

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Empathetic approach with clients facing difficult personal situations

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

• Member in good standing with the Missouri State Bar (or eligible through reciprocity)

Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written communication

• Strong legal research and analytical capabilities

• Ability to adapt to changing case dynamics

• Competence in managing case strategies and multitasking under pressure

• High level of professionalism and client service ethics
