Lead Attorney
Duties: Provide legal representation on family law matters (i.e. protective orders, custody issues, property settlements and support orders). Provides legal advocacy, information, and referral to clients. Assists in implementing and maintaining a pro bono program and Legal Clinic in conjunction with a law school clinic. Provide legal information and advice to clients regarding family law matters, offering referral and advocacy as needed. Attend court hearings as scheduled. Maintain membership with the Texas Bar Association and other organizations as determined by the agency. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as operating manuals, professional journals, law books and the Texas Family Code and all other code and rule books necessary to representing clients.. Must be able to speak effectively before groups of professionals. Must be able to produce documents in a clear, concise, and effective manner befitting the standard of the legal profession. Maintain client contact hard files and e-files in a consistent and timely manner. Must be able to work varied hours including some evenings as assigned by supervisor. Maintain sufficient number of CLE units as required by the State Bar of Texas. Maintain the monthly statistical reports. Assist in developing, maintaining and updating an attorney referral list. Create forms required for legal program. Provide regular training on family law and domestic violence related issues to colleagues and other professionals. Supervises one Family Law Attorney and one paralegal. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and hiring employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
