Job Overview:
A leading law firm with a national reputation is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its growing Affordable Housing and Real Estate practice. This role is ideal for a motivated attorney with 2–5 years of experience in affordable housing and real estate transactions. The position involves working closely with public agencies and affiliated entities to handle complex legal issues related to affordable housing development, finance, and real estate matters. This opportunity offers flexibility with an optional work-from-home arrangement while being based in Texas.
Location:
Houston, Texas
Duties:
Draft and review ground leases, partnership/operating agreements, corporate resolutions, and construction contracts
Prepare and negotiate loan documents and subrecipient agreements for federally funded housing developments
Counsel clients on entitlement processes and real estate transactions involving acquisition, development, and disposition of real property
Advise on public agency procurement procedures and federal funding requirements (e.g., CDBG programs)
Provide legal support for commercial real estate closings and multifamily housing projects
Interpret and apply state and federal affordable housing regulations, including HUD programs and tax credit financing
Review title policies and surveys for large commercial projects
Requirements:
2–5 years of experience in affordable housing and real estate transactional work
Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters and collaborate with public sector clients
Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
Housing tax credits
HUD programs and public housing redevelopment
Real estate closings on large transactions
Texas title and survey review
Local government contracting
Federal funding compliance
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active and in good standing with the Texas State Bar
Skills:
Strong drafting and negotiation skills in real estate and housing transactions
Excellent legal research and analytical skills
Effective communicator with public and private clients
Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing multiple matters simultaneously
Familiarity with federal and state housing regulations and programs
