Profile

This position is responsible for performing physical and visual inspections of product and plant systems, documenting and calculating results accurately; taking corrective action when necessary (alert appropriate personnel to adjust process; identify, segregate, & isolate non-conforming product) and report results to management; any additional assignments requested. All team members are responsible for safety. This includes but is not limited to personal safety and food safety.

Summary

The QA technician is responsible for ensuring that the product being produced on the various production lines meets the established quality specifications to include communicating quality issues to the respective member of management. Checks and documents product quality against specifications on multiple lines hourly to include, but not limited to, size, weight, moisture, pH, etc. All checks are to be documented in the Plant View system within a timely manner. Reading and comprehending the results of measurement equipment including, but not limited to, rulers, scales, meters, calipers, thermometers, etc. Responsible for operating and calibrating key measurement equipment including, but not limited to, scales, meters, calipers, thermometers, etc. Placing appropriate products on QA hold. Determine if product meets specifications and taking appropriate actions if there is non-compliance. Collecting retention samples at a set schedule. Conducting and documenting HACCP metal detector checks. Conducting Observational Verification on production checks. Communicating product / food safety / HACCP issues to Management in a timely manner. Conducting additional product evaluations as directed by supervisor. Verify incoming ingredients and packaging against set standard and approving them for use in the plant to include marking them per the established SOP. Responsible for performing micro swabs on a weekly and monthly basis. i.e. hand swabs, pre-op swabs, yeast and mold. Additional responsibilities as assigned by QA Supervisor or Manager.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required for the Position

Requires 100% flexibility of wrists and hands. Walking, bending, standing and some lifting required. Lifting of up to 30 lbs. on an occasional basis. Must be able to move heavy objects (100 lbs.) with mechanical device. Must be able to use and read scales, thermometers, meters, and calipers. Must be able to communicate quality issues with production effectively. Must be able to read QA check paperwork, product specifications, Certificate of Analysis, etc. Must be able to write QA recordings in the QA check sheets and complete QA documentation accurately. Must be able to perform basic data entry in the Plant View systems. Must be able to perform essential functions of job with or without reasonable accommodation.

REQUIREMENTS: Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in the Prepared Foods industry required or other QA type experience. Communication Skills: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Special Skills: Must possess skills to complete Tyson paperwork; ability to lead by example and motivate the hourly workforce; good problem identification and problem solving skills; math and organizational skills; ability to read and interpret product specifications; must function well under stress; must have flexibility to work where and when needed. Physical Requirements : Position involves heavy lifting (70 lbs. or more). Supervisory: None Travel: None
