A respected law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Patent Agent with a technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline. This role centers on patent drafting and prosecution with exposure to advanced technologies, including AI and machine learning. Duties:
Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications
Conduct technical discussions with inventors and clients to understand innovations
Collaborate with attorneys on IP strategies and client counseling
Respond to office actions and communicate with the USPTO
Assist in patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement analyses
Keep current on trends in IP law, particularly in software and emerging tech
Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in relevant technologies
Familiarity with AI and machine learning-related inventions preferred
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a client-oriented environment
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field
Certifications:
USPTO Registration (Required)
Skills:
High proficiency in technical writing and legal drafting
