Job Overview:
A leading law firm is actively seeking mid-level Patent Agents with a technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, or a related field to join its Intellectual Property – Patent Prosecution Practice Group. Location:
Duties:
Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the areas of electrical engineering and computer science
Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and legal teams to assess invention disclosures and develop strategic patent protection plans
Conduct prior art searches and patentability assessments
Analyze patent portfolios and assist with IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing deals
Provide technical support in patent litigation and opinion matters as needed
Stay current on developments in intellectual property law and relevant technologies
Communicate directly with clients and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution
Strong background in electrical or computer-related technologies
Excellent legal writing and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following fields:
Electrical Engineering
Computer Engineering
Software Engineering
Computer Science
Physics
Certifications:
Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required
Skills:
Technical expertise in:
Data science, machine learning, or artificial intelligence
Network security or encryption/decryption
RF circuitry or communications technology
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
Ability to produce high-quality written work product
Proficiency in managing complex technical subject matter in legal contexts
