Director of Pro Bono
The candidate direct wide-ranging operations of the firm’s robust pro bono portfolio, across offices and practice areas. Provide direct legal representation to pro bono clients and serves as resource to others providing direct representation. Develop and invests in community partnerships to create effective and impactful pro bono representation opportunities, with a strategic focus on those that align with the firm’s values and priorities, including DEI efforts, legal talent recruiting and retention, and collaboration with in-house legal teams. Ensure that firm resources dedicated to pro bono practice are utilized appropriately. Develop and implement strategic priorities for Pro Bono practice, in partnership with Pro Bono Partner; conduct regular needs assessments with relevant leaders and stakeholders to develop and implement new pro bono projects and opportunities. Manage active pro bono matter docket across offices and pro bono practice areas, including monitoring and supporting pro bono participation by timekeepers across firm offices and practice groups. Provide substantive mentoring and other support to attorneys and other timekeepers on pro bono matters. Provide direct representation to pro bono clients. Build and manage relationships with community partners, including legal service organizations and in-house legal teams, to further grow the firm’s pro bono practice. Coordinate with Client Experience, Legal Talent, Marketing, Business Development, and other teams to ensure that pro bono is appropriately integrated into all relevant aspects of the firm. Ensure maintenance and prioritization of a strong DEI perspective in all aspects of pro bono practice, especially when setting strategic priorities, selecting pro bono matters, and building community partnerships; work closely with firm affinity groups and DEI team to align pro bono practice with DEI values and priorities. Participate in attorney integration and departure processes as related to the Pro Bono Practice. Coordinate and implement various pro bono events (e.g., events for summer associates, orientation for new attorneys, Pro Bono Week activities) to highlight the firm’s focus on Pro Bono efforts and increase engagement and support for these efforts. Lead and support relevant localized pro bono efforts, including development of pro bono participation and relationships with regional legal services organizations; represent the firm at relevant events and conferences related to pro bono efforts; Partner with Pro Bono Ambassadors to support localized pro bono efforts. Develop and manage pro bono practice resources, including exemplars and training materials, as well as pro bono pages on the firm intranet and internet sites. Develop and implement training programs for relevant topics and skills development for core pro bono practice areas, partnering across the firm and community to ensure excellent programming. Prepare and analyze statistical reports regarding pro bono practice performance; respond to external pro bono reporting requests as required. Develop internal and external pro bono communications, in coordination with Pro Bono and Marketing teams, to highlight the firm’s pro bono focus and success stories. Serve as a good steward of the firm’s resources that are dedicated to the pro bono practice. Supervise members of the Pro Bono Team. Identify and mitigate risks associated with pro bono representations, coordinating with the Office of General Counsel as necessary. Juris Doctor degree & Bachelor's degree in relevant field is required. Should have 5+ years legal services and/or medium to large law firm experience, as an attorney. Demonstrated experience working as an attorney on transactional matters and/or immigration matters is required. Demonstrated experience providing pro bono legal services to individuals, nonprofit organizations and/or low-income entrepreneurs is required.
