Job Overview

An established law firm with a strong national and international presence is seeking a Patent Agent with a minimum of four years of experience to join its expanding Intellectual Property practice. This position focuses on patent prosecution and strategy within the life sciences sector and involves collaboration with attorneys and clients across multiple disciplines. The role can be based in any of the firm’s offices.

Location

• Boca Raton, FL

Duties

• Evaluate patentability of innovations in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices

• Prepare, draft, and file U.S. patent applications

• Prosecute U.S. patent applications and coordinate with international counsel for global filings

• Support IP due diligence and strategic patent portfolio management

• Conduct legal and technical research on intellectual property issues

• Collaborate with legal teams, clients, and business stakeholders on IP strategy

• Act as liaison for internal initiatives and interface with outside counsel as needed

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm or in-house setting

• Focused experience in life sciences sectors such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices

• USPTO registration (or near-term eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar)

• Experience in mechanical or electrical patent prosecution is a plus

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Education

• Ph.D. in a relevant life sciences discipline required

Certifications

• Registered Patent Agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
