Patent Agent or Engineer

Profile

A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent or Engineer for their Milwaukee office. The Patent Agent or Engineer will be responsible for drafting and prosecuting patent applications primarily in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Robotics. Experience in the AI field and familiarity with patent analysis, opinions of counsel, and IPRs are advantageous. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for collaborating with clients, attorneys, and staff effectively.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications in various technical fields, including Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Data Science, ML, or Robotics
• Conduct patent analysis and provide opinions of counsel
• Participate in Inter Partes Reviews (IPRs) as needed
• Manage patent portfolios and provide strategic guidance on patent matters
• Collaborate with inventors, attorneys, and external clients to understand invention disclosures and patent prosecution strategies
• Conduct prior art searches and patent landscape analyses
• Manage confidential information and sensitive situations with discretion

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Robotics
• 2+ years of patent drafting and prosecution experience at a law firm or in-house
• Admission to the USPTO (preferred)
• Experience with AI technologies, including machine learning, generative models, data, and image analytics (preferred)
• Familiarity with blockchain, distributed ledgers, video codecs, and cloud platforms and computing (a plus)
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to manage confidential information with tact and discretion
