A law firm is seeking an experienced mid- to senior-level litigator to join its Midtown Manhattan office as an Associate, Counsel, or Partner. This role is fully on-site and offers a unique chance to shape a growing practice devoted to shareholder derivative actions in both federal and state courts nationwide. The firm emphasizes professional development and rewards initiative, providing an environment where attorneys can advance their careers and personal growth.

Job Overview

  • Position: Mid/Senior Attorney (Associate, Counsel, or Partner level)

  • Practice Focus: Shareholder derivative lawsuits and related corporate fiduciary matters

  • Work Setting: In-person at a Manhattan office, collaborating closely with a small team of specialists

  • Experience Level: 4–10+ years of litigation experience preferred; rising professionals with significant hands-on work may also be considered

  • Compensation & Benefits: Competitive salary structure; 401(k) retirement plan with employer match; contributions to health and dental insurance premiums; comprehensive disability coverage

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead case development from inception through resolution, including client intake, fact investigation, drafting pleadings, and strategizing motions

  • Conduct in-depth legal research on securities regulations, corporate governance, and fiduciary duties; translate findings into persuasive memoranda and briefs

  • Draft and file complaints, motions, and discovery requests; handle document review and deposition preparation with precision

  • Collaborate with colleagues to craft tactical litigation plans, coordinating assignments and sharing insights on evolving legal theories

  • Represent clients in court hearings, settlement conferences, and mediations, articulating complex arguments with clarity and poise

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with institutional and individual clients, providing regular updates on case status and potential developments

  • Mentor junior associates and paralegals, offering guidance on litigation best practices, document drafting, and case management

  • Identify opportunities to expand the practice’s footprint—whether through recruiting boutique teams or spearheading outreach to referral sources

Qualifications & Experience

  • Licensed to practice in New York State (active, in good standing)

  • Minimum of four years of litigation experience in Big Law, a plaintiffs’ securities boutique, or a firm focused on intricate, high-stakes disputes

  • Demonstrated ability to manage caseloads autonomously while also thriving in a collaborative environment

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for crafting compelling legal arguments and clear client correspondence

  • Detail-driven approach: capable of dissecting voluminous financial records, SEC filings, and corporate governance documents

  • Proactive mindset: anticipates issues, raises strategic questions, and follows through on assignments with minimal supervision

Education & Credentials

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; coursework or certification in securities regulation strongly preferred

  • Membership in the New York State Bar (no pending disciplinary actions)

  • Additional credentials (e.g., participation in specialized securities-focused CLE programs, recognition in legal journals, or prior clerkships) are advantageous

Desired Knowledge & Skills

  • Securities & Fiduciary Law: Familiarity with federal securities statutes (e.g., Section 10(b), 14(a)), state corporate-law provisions governing fiduciary duties, and recent case law trends

  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of capital markets, corporate financial statements, and valuation concepts to spot actionable insights in shareholder-derivative claims

  • Analytical Prowess: Ability to dissect accounting records, uncover evidence of mismanagement or breach, and frame legal strategies around nuanced financial data

  • Research & Drafting Excellence: Aptitude for producing well-reasoned motions, complex discovery requests, and persuasive legal briefs under tight deadlines

  • Team Orientation: Proven track record of collaborating effectively with peers, offering constructive feedback, and contributing to a collegial culture

  • Time Management: Skilled at juggling multiple cases simultaneously, setting priorities, and meeting court-imposed deadlines without sacrificing attention to detail
