A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney to join its expanding Intellectual Property practice group. This opportunity is ideal for early-career attorneys with 1–3 years of experience in patent prosecution and an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. Location:

• Chicago, IL

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications in the mechanical engineering space

• Collaborate with inventors and in-house counsel to develop patent strategies

• Conduct prior art searches and prepare patentability and freedom-to-operate opinions

• Assist with IP due diligence and support patent portfolio management

• Communicate effectively with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices

• Engage in client counseling and support business development efforts

Requirements:

• 1–3 years of experience in patent prosecution

• Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering (required)

• Strong academic record

• Commitment to excellence and the ability to work independently and collaboratively

• Admission to a state bar (required)

• Registration to practice before the USPTO (preferred or expected soon)

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

Certifications:

• Admission to practice in at least one U.S. state

• USPTO registration number (preferred)

Skills:

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and research abilities

• Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines

• Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor

• Proficiency in patent prosecution tools and systems
