Job Overview:
A prominent law firm located in Miami, FL, is partnering with a legal recruiting agency to identify a qualified Patent Agent to support its expanding intellectual property group. This role involves working with professionals across various disciplines to provide strategic guidance and technical execution in patent prosecution, particularly within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device industries.

Duties:

• Review and assess the patentability of technical innovations across diverse scientific fields

• Draft, prepare, and file patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

• Handle the prosecution of U.S. patent applications and collaborate with global associates for foreign filings

• Assist in managing strategic patent portfolios and conducting IP due diligence assessments

• Perform legal and scientific research relevant to intellectual property matters

• Coordinate closely with legal teams, business units, and clients on IP-related strategies

• Act as a liaison for cross-functional projects involving outside legal partners and internal teams

Requirements:

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or in-house IP department

• Demonstrated expertise in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices

• In-depth understanding of patent law and procedures for U.S. and international filings

• Eligibility for immediate contribution to complex life science patent portfolios

Education:

• Ph.D. in a relevant life sciences field (e.g., biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline)

Certifications:

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), or qualified to sit for the Patent Bar shortly

Skills:

• Strong scientific acumen in life sciences and related patent subject matter

• Effective written and verbal communication abilities

• Collaborative mindset and adaptability to team-driven environments

• Familiarity with mechanical or electrical patent matters is advantageous
