Job Overview:

A respected law firm based in Rochester, NY, is seeking a seasoned Associate Attorney with a concentration in real estate law. The role involves in-depth analysis of title reports, survey documents, and related materials to identify potential risks, resolve defects, and support real estate transactions. The ideal candidate will bring strong legal knowledge, exceptional attention to detail, and effective communication skills to navigate complex title issues and collaborate with key stakeholders.

Duties:

• Analyze title reports, commitments, and accompanying documents for accuracy and completeness

• Detect and assess legal implications of title exceptions, defects, encumbrances, and unresolved issues

• Recommend risk mitigation strategies and assist in resolving curative matters

• Review and interpret real estate surveys to identify inconsistencies or concerns

• Draft and issue formal title objection letters to the relevant parties

• Communicate effectively with title companies, underwriters, and external legal representatives

• Conduct legal research on evolving title-related issues and summarize key findings

• Maintain precise documentation of title work and ensure compliance with tracking protocols

• Support negotiations surrounding title insurance coverage

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in real estate law, with a focus on title review and curative action

• Demonstrated expertise in evaluating title documents and associated risks in transactional settings

• Familiarity with survey interpretation within real estate matters

• Admission to the New York State Bar

• Exceptional analytical and legal writing capabilities

• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional legal teams

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law institution

Certifications:

• Active and valid license to practice law in the state of New York

Skills:

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (including pivot tables and data functions)

• Experience with electronic title databases and legal tracking platforms

• Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines

• Effective verbal and written communication abilities across legal and non-legal audiences
