Job Title: Patent Attorney
Job Overview:
A respected law firm based in Manchester, New Hampshire, is partnering with a specialized legal recruiting agency to hire a mid-level Patent Attorney. This opportunity is tailored for individuals with a strong technical foundation in electrical engineering, computer science, or physics and substantial experience in patent prosecution. The position supports hybrid flexibility and offers the chance to work with leading professionals on innovative technologies in a collaborative and client-centered environment.
Duties:
Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications
Analyze invention disclosures and provide patentability assessments
Interface with clients to discuss technical and legal strategies
Coordinate with foreign associates for international filings
Respond to Office Actions and develop persuasive arguments before the USPTO
Stay informed on evolving patent law regulations and procedural rules
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams on complex IP portfolios
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in patent preparation and prosecution
Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Active Bar membership in at least one U.S. state (for attorney applicants)
Strong technical understanding of hardware/software systems or semiconductor technologies
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively
Education:
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school (for attorneys only)
Certifications:
USPTO Registration Number required
State Bar license (attorneys only)
Skills:
Exceptional writing, editing, and analytical abilities
Acute attention to detail and organizational competence
Ability to manage competing deadlines in a client-facing setting
Previous industry or engineering work experience before law school is highly valued
Familiarity with semiconductor processes, software architecture, and hardware systems is a plus
