Job Description:
The Curry College Education Department invites applications for qualified teacher educators with expertise and experience with educational administration, curriculum & pedagogy, diversity, equity and inclusion in schools, child development and effective teaching practices to apply for an appointment at the Assistant Professor rank to begin for the fall 2023 semester.
The Assistant Professor will support graduate programs in education and provides guidance and leaderships to all graduate programs at our two campuses in Milton and Plymouth, as well as at partnership sites. This individual must be knowledgeable of state and national education standards to ensure successful outcomes for students and the continued approval of the program. Additionally, the assistant professor is expected to be engaged, detail-oriented, communicative leader who works effectively with a range of constituents across the institution and the educator preparation community.
We seek an educator, administrator and scholar who actively connects theory and practice in the classroom, understands and applies current and best practices in diversity, equity and inclusion; can advance the field of preparing new educators and administrators, and brings a current understanding of pedagogical best practices to their teaching, scholarship, and service. Possesses a knowledge of early education/elementary/middle school education, current national standards and best practices for teaching children from birth through high school and adult learners.
Candidates who have experience with culturally, academically and economically diverse students are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to be an active contributor to the service of the department and to content areas in the department, depending on their area(s) of expertise. Only candidates who will have completed a doctorate degree by the position start date will be considered (ABD will be considered with a completion date before August 2023). Evaluations of candidates will begin on January 13, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled.
Responsibilities include the following:
Assisting the Graduate Director in overseeing Graduate Programs in Education including the teacher preparation programs, administrator preparation programs, Endorsement programs and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) programs;
Teaching graduate students in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement;
Teach courses in curriculum, pedagogy, diversity, equity and inclusion, literacy or educational leadership in education to teacher and administrator candidates at the graduate level;
As applicable, teach other courses focused on introduction to the field of education, educational psychology, educational programming, special education, classroom management and positive behavior techniques and school/family relationships depending on the expertise of the applicant;
Advise and mentor students at the graduate level;
Curriculum development and assessment of learning outcomes assessment of coursework and programming at the graduate level;
Engage in service to the department in programming and curricular development, admissions and recruitment efforts, and other department initiatives;
Guide and lead ongoing data collection and analysis to productively participate in program review and accreditation for graduate programming;
Engage with community organizations to promote partnerships and affiliations;
Carry out the duties to assist the Director of Graduate Programs in Education;
Pursue a program of scholarly inquiry, including, but not limited to, presentations at conferences and publications in scholarly journals;
Be technologically proficient teaching in on-line and hybrid/hi-flex environments and using LMS systems;
Some summer and intersession work is expected.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates for the appointment should have completed a doctorate degree in educational leadership curriculum & instruction or related field prior to beginning the position.
Minimum of 6-8 years teaching and administrative experience in educational settings from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12.
Demonstrated expertise in curriculum & pedagogy at the early education/elementary/middle level/high school level.
Demonstrated expertise in diversity, equity and inclusion practices, constructs and their applications in educational settings.
Evidence of an emerging research agenda that informs their work as a teacher educator and administrator.
Three to five years' experience teaching courses at the college level.
Successful experience working with and advising adult learners.
Demonstrated comfort and proficiency working and teaching in-person, online or hybrid/hi-flex environment.
Professional work style conducive to an active and professional environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years' experience teaching courses at the college level.
Successful experiences supporting educator preparation programs in a traditional higher education setting or other appropriate administrative role.
Experience teaching/working in culturally, academically and economically diverse settings.
Commitment to recruiting and teaching diverse learners and modeling inclusive practices.
Experience teaching/working within a specific content area that complements the needs of the department (for example: literacy, social studies, special education, teaching English to speakers of other languages, science education, educational leadership, administration).
Experience integrating technology into curriculum.
Experience with the Candidate Assessment of Performance and Massachusetts Performance Assessment for Leaders.
Knowledge of and experience with the Massachusetts DESE Subject Matter Knowledge (SMK), Massachusetts Frameworks, Professional Standards for Teachers and Administrators.
Experience serving in a leadership capacity in an Education Department.
Familiarity with faculty governance processes.
Familiarity with record keeping in higher education environments.
