A leading Pacific Northwest-based law firm seeks a highly skilled patent practitioner with a strong background in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to an established intellectual property team serving innovative clients across life sciences and technology sectors. Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields
Analyze complex scientific literature and patent disclosures to develop comprehensive strategies
Conduct freedom-to-operate, patentability, and landscape analyses
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to align patent strategy with business objectives
Manage multiple client matters simultaneously with autonomy and accountability
Participate in IP portfolio management and strategic advising for emerging and established companies
Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution focused on biotechnology or pharmaceutical subject matter
Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Membership in or eligibility for admission to the Washington or Oregon State Bar (for attorneys only)
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team setting
Excellent research, writing, and oral communication skills
Proven commitment to high-quality client service and legal ethics
Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant life sciences discipline, such as:
Biochemistry
Molecular or Cellular Biology
Immunology
Biology
USPTO Registration (mandatory for all candidates)
State Bar admission (mandatory for attorney applicants)
Deep technical knowledge of life sciences and biotech innovations
Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities
Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear legal language
Client-focused mindset with proactive communication skills
