Job Title: Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface Patent Agent

Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a qualified and motivated Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface Patent Agent to join their Denver, CO office. The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background, law firm, and industry experience, and be adept at preparing and prosecuting patents related to cutting-edge technologies such as software, AI, IoT, networking, and quantum technologies. The role requires strong writing and communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with both legal and technical teams. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with 2+ years of patent experience who is passionate about innovation and intellectual property law.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications related to product design, user interface, and emerging technologies.
  • Conduct thorough patent searches and provide analysis on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement issues.
  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and product teams to understand technical innovations and ensure accurate patent filings.
  • Provide strategic guidance on patent portfolio management and help optimize intellectual property strategy.
  • Draft and review responses to office actions and other communications from the USPTO.
  • Stay updated on developments in relevant technologies, such as software, AI, IoT, and quantum computing, to support patent filings.
  • Advise clients on intellectual property rights, patent strategies, and best practices for product design and innovation.
  • Conduct due diligence on patents and IP portfolios during mergers, acquisitions, and other transactional work.
  • Support litigation teams with patent validity and infringement analysis as needed.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution, preferably within a law firm setting.
  • Strong background and understanding of software-related technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, and/or quantum technologies.
  • JD from an accredited law school and active admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Proven ability to handle complex patent matters independently and collaboratively within a legal team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to convey complex technical ideas in a clear, concise manner.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Education:

  • Bachelor or advanced degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • JD from an accredited law school.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Admission to the USPTO is required.
  • Admission to a State Bar is preferred.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent drafting, prosecution, and management of patent portfolios.
  • Knowledge and experience with software, AI, IoT, and quantum technologies.
  • Strong research and analytical skills in assessing technical inventions and legal issues.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in legal documents and patent applications.
  • Strong client-facing skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and internal teams.
