Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Lead Attorney - Removal Defense in Glendale, Arizona (Hybrid). This role involves serving as a senior litigator and first-line supervisor within the Removal Defense practice. The position requires maintaining an active caseload while supervising 1-2 attorneys and coordinating hearing coverage to ensure exceptional client representation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an active personal caseload, including hearings and appeals.
• Draft and review motions, briefs, and appeals.
• Develop case theory and litigation strategy for complex matters.
• Prepare clients and family members for testimony.
• Attend hearings virtually when required.
• Research and work with country conditions experts.
• Liaise with government agencies such as ICE, DHS, and EOIR.
• Supervise and develop 1-2 removal defense attorneys.
• Review motions, briefs, and hearing preparation.
• Coordinate coverage for hearings when staff attorneys are unavailable.
• Serve as first escalation point for complex removal defense issues.
• Ensure removal defense work meets firm standards.

Requirements

• Active U.S. law license in good standing.
• Significant removal defense experience, including EOIR practice and complex litigation strategy.
• Experience drafting motions and briefs.
• Experience preparing clients and witnesses for hearings.
• Prior experience supervising or mentoring other attorneys.
• Strong courtroom presence and sound legal judgment.
• Spanish/English bilingual preferred, not required.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

• Active U.S. law license.
