Associate General Counsel
Duties: Responsible for providing legal counsel and guidance to all entities. Responsible for day-to-day advice and counsel with a focus in the areas of Fraud and Abuse, HIPAA, Risk Management, Medical Staff, Supply Chain Contracting, Provider Contracting, Patient Rights and Guardianship and other duties as assigned by the General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer. Assists with providing a wide variety of legal services related to operations, programs, facilities, and personnel, including support to clinical, operational, and business areas; corporate transactions; employment and medical staff issues. Assists with responding to legal and regulatory issues and questions pertaining to patient care, social work and similar areas and subjects, including but not limited to assistance with advance directives, guardianships matters, Involuntary Emergency Admissions, subpoenas, search warrants, legal record requests and other legal processes. Reviews, negotiates and revises contracts, and coordinates contract management; drafts and reviews policies involving legal issues. Coordinates closely with and provides legal support to corporate compliance, particularly relating to billing and coding compliance; government and payer audits; whistleblower and compliance hotline issues; healthcare fraud and abuse laws including Stark and Anti-Kickback Statute; privacy laws including HIPAA; system-wide policy coordination; and related matters and issues. Assists with liaison relationships with outside counsel and consultants as required. Is knowledgeable of legal trends and standards which regulate health care facilities and patient care and works to ensure compliance with these standards. Responds in a timely manner to requests for advice or information. Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of such organizations’ goals and objectives. Promotes and contributes positively to the team work of the department by volunteering to assist co-workers, contributing ideas and problem solving with coworkers. Participates in planning and implementing change and maintaining and improving productivity through attendance and participation in staff meetings, task forces, projects and discussions. Serve as an exemplar of leadership, which includes team leadership, change leadership, and business leadership (TCB). Communicates clearly and effectively with people inside and outside the system.
