Deputy General Counsel, Privacy and Legal Information Security

The candidate will report to the firm's Chief Privacy Officer, with dotted line reporting to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel for the firm Spectator. Provide legal counsel and support to one or more business units and/or the corporate headquarters. Counsels on a broad range of legal issues related to assigned area(s). Provide leadership in one or more legal specialties and disseminates information on trends and innovations within the specialty. Engage and direct outside counsel to undertake specific and complex work requiring the application of highly specialized legal knowledge. Represent Company with respect to threatened litigation and analyzes claims or threats of litigation. Manage litigation with outside counsel, including review of pleadings and case strategy. Oversee the completion of projects including planning; assigning and monitoring; reviewing progress and accuracy of work; evaluating results etc.. Lead and provide guidance to legal staff including junior Attorneys, Paralegals and administrative staff, as required. Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance. Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Handle privacy and data protection-related inquiries from a wide range of groups within the company and provide actionable advice and legal counsel to facilitate privacy and data protection compliance. Evaluate various Comcast programs and initiatives considering applicable privacy/data protection requirements. Work closely with enterprise and business unit stakeholders to embed privacy principles into business plans and strategic initiatives during the design and execution process. Assist in the creation, maintenance and implementation of policies, processes, data inventories and records of processing, and associated documentation relating to processing of data. Review of existing Privacy Policies and other internal governance documents for consistency with company practices. Review existing policies for newly acquired entities and where appropriate, perform a gap analysis and develop consistent policies and standards. Assist with Privacy Impact and Risk Assessments relating to new businesses and initiatives involving processing of personal information. Monitor and summarize relevant legislative developments, case law, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions globally. Review, draft and negotiate various types of agreements (e.g., vendor/service provider agreements, customer agreements, data processing, data transfer, and data usage agreements, etc.). Conduct awareness and training efforts as needed and/or required to increase employee understanding of company privacy policies, data handling practices and procedures, and legal obligations. Juris Doctor degree is required. Strong academic credentials is required. Should have 8-13 years combined legal experience at a top law firm and/or in-house legal department, with 7+ years of privacy/data protection experience is strong preferred. Should have 7-10 years of relevant work experience. CIPP certification is preferred. Knowledge of and familiarity with U.S. and EU privacy and information security laws, regulations and standards, including GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, CCPA, U.S. state and federal data privacy, security, breach notification, consumer protection laws, regulations and proposed legislation and proven ability to provide timely and practical guidance to the business- Awareness of the privacy provisions of the Cable Act and the Communications Act is preferred. Member in good standing of PA State Bar, or with ability to obtain full or limited in-house license in PA is required.
