Profile

A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent - Technology to join their team in Costa Mesa. The candidate will work under the supervision of an intellectual property partner, providing support to the practice group while assuming significant client responsibilities. They will focus on protecting inventions, preparing and prosecuting patent applications, conducting prior art searches, and engaging in IP due diligence.

 

Duties:

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office
  • Perform prior art searches and analysis
  • Conduct patentability analysis
  • Assist in IP due diligence processes
  • Engage in practice development activities to build and maintain client relationships
  • Prepare substantive client correspondence
  • Instruct local counsel for foreign filings and Office Actions
  • Assist in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects
  • Convert provisional applications into utility applications
  • Convert foreign filed applications into U.S. applications and vice versa

 

Requirements:

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or eligible to sit for the USPTO patent agent exam
  • Bachelor’s degree (or graduate degree) preferably in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering
  • 2+ years of experience prosecuting or examining patent applications in the electrical arts, preferably display and battery technology and optics

 

Skills:

  • Excellent writing and research abilities
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to apply advanced concepts in any life sciences field, particularly in molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry
