The candidate performs highly responsible legal work directly assisting a Supreme Court justice with case-specific duties. Law clerks work under their justice's exclusive supervision. Work involves preparation of bench briefs and legal memoranda on upcoming cases following a thorough review of the record, research of pertinent law, and analysis of facts submitted. Must have considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, and practices of legal research and be able to analyze, appraise, and organize facts, evidence, and precedents in difficult and complex cases. Must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. (New graduates must be able to pass the bar exam prior to renewal of appointment for a second year.) Prior experience as a practicing attorney or law clerk in a lower court is preferred.
