Patent Attorney (Electrical Arts)
The candidate will be responsible for: Draft and globally prosecute patent applications in electrical, computer science, and business method fields. Interface with inventors. Conduct legal research regarding intellectual property law. Coordinate and correspond with foreign law firms to file and prosecute foreign patent applications. Present continuing legal education seminars on intellectual property law topics. Coordinate and correspond with clients for processing and legalization of formal documents for filing in U.S. and foreign patent offices. Review country requirements and obtain Foreign Filing Licenses where needed. Maintain client portfolio and provide client with estimates of costs for future filings and maintenance. Assist in the Firm's standardized procedures to enhance malpractice prevention. Prepare and send notices to clients regarding upcoming deadlines. Correspond with foreign law firms regarding filings, deadlines and billings. Anticipate supervising partner or client needs for specific projects. Delegate effectively and as appropriate with Paralegals or Legal Administrative Assistants. Design, recommend, and implement new processes and procedures to increase group efficiency. Take on special projects, as needed. Must have Juris Doctor, higher degree, or equivalent in Law. Should be Licensed to practice law in Missouri. Must have Bachelor’s degree, higher degree, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related degree and/or work experience. Excellent academic credentials and excellent research, writing, analytical, organizational, and communication skills are required. U.S. Patent & Trademark Office or ability to qualify and domestic and international prosecution experience is preferred. Law firm or in-house IP experience preferred. Should have 0-3 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in the electrical arts.
