A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney with 1–3 years of experience to join its growing Intellectual Property group. Duties

• Prepare and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications in mechanical and related fields

• Draft responses to Office Actions from the USPTO

• Conduct prior art searches and prepare patentability, freedom-to-operate, and validity opinions

• Collaborate with inventors and clients to assess inventions and develop IP protection strategies

• Support IP due diligence efforts related to transactions and licensing

• Keep current on changes in patent law, procedures, and technologies relevant to client industries

• Assist with portfolio management and strategic counseling on intellectual property matters

Requirements

• 1–3 years of experience in patent prosecution

• Demonstrated ability to manage tasks, deadlines, and client communications

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Enthusiasm for IP law and long-term practice development

• Experience working in a law firm or comparable legal setting preferred

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

• Strong academic performance required

Certifications

• Active registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

• Admission to the bar in any U.S. state, with eligibility to obtain bar admission in the office's jurisdiction if not already held

Skills

• Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering (required)

• Excellent legal and technical writing skills

• Ability to translate complex engineering concepts into legal applications

• Strong research and analytical skills

• Effective communication and collaboration abilities

• Familiarity with patent filing software and docketing systems is a plus
