A law firm seeks a motivated Associate Attorney to join its Plaintiff Personal Injury Litigation and Pre-Litigation Practice in Kansas City, MO. This in-office role offers attorneys early in their career the chance to gain hands-on litigation experience and exposure to pre-litigation case development. The position involves working closely with seasoned attorneys to learn all aspects of personal injury law, including case investigation, negotiation, discovery, and courtroom advocacy.

Duties

• Conduct legal research and evaluate cases for claim viability.
• Gather medical records, police reports, and other evidence with case managers.
• Engage in client consultations and keep clients informed about case progress.
• Draft demand letters and negotiate settlements with insurance companies.
• Collaborate with attorneys and medical experts to assess injury causation and damages.
• Take and defend depositions of clients, witnesses, and opposing parties.
• Draft discovery requests, pleadings, and motions.
• Argue motions in court and handle motion practice.
• Develop litigation strategies with senior attorneys and prepare for jury trials.
• Communicate regularly with clients, insurance adjusters, and opposing counsel.
• Attend court appearances, mediations, and settlement conferences.

Requirements

• 1-3 years' experience handling personal injury cases, including pre-litigation and litigation.
• J.D. from an accredited law school and an active license in good standing.
• Bar licensure in both Illinois and Missouri required.
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Experience handling courtroom motion practice is preferred.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Education
