Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Senior Litigation Counsel to lead its commercial litigation practice group, focusing on business disputes and related legal matters within Oregon. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in litigation, strategic case management, and leadership. This role includes overseeing a team consisting of an associate attorney and paralegal/legal assistant, with the potential for expanding the litigation practice.

Duties

  • Lead and manage a commercial litigation team.

  • Handle complex litigation matters, including contract disputes, partnership disagreements, and regulatory hearings.

  • Develop and implement case strategies.

  • Prepare pleadings, motions, and legal briefs.

  • Conduct document discovery, including large-scale electronic discovery.

  • Take and defend fact, expert, and document depositions.

  • Collaborate with and direct expert witnesses across multiple industries.

  • Negotiate settlements and participate in alternative dispute resolution proceedings.

  • Appear in federal and state courts, administrative hearings, and mediations.

  • Contribute to firm administration and professional development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in commercial litigation.

  • First-chair or second-chair trial experience involving cases with at least $1 million at stake.

  • Licensed to practice law in Oregon.

  • Proven ability to set and execute case strategy effectively.

  • Experience in litigation matters such as corporate ownership disputes, intellectual property, landlord-tenant issues, and employment law.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • An active bar license is in good standing with the Oregon State Bar.

Skills

  • Leadership & Team Management: Ability to mentor and oversee attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants.

  • Legal Writing & Research: Strong drafting skills for motions, briefs, and client memoranda, along with efficient legal research capabilities.

  • Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Ability to work collaboratively, make decisive judgments, and maintain high ethical standards.

  • Litigation & Trial Skills: Strong experience with case strategy, expert witness management, and alternative dispute resolution.
