A respected intellectual property law firm is seeking a full-time Patent Prosecution Attorney to join its Electronics & Software practice. This is a non-partnership track role ideal for a USPTO-registered attorney with experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications involving cutting-edge software technologies. The position offers a reduced billable hour requirement and the opportunity to work closely with innovative clients on complex IP matters.
Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in software and electronics domains
Respond to USPTO and international office actions
Assist in managing patent portfolios for technology-focused clients
Provide legal counsel on patentability, infringement risks, and freedom-to-operate issues
Collaborate with technical teams and inventors to develop strategic IP protections
Support patent strategy development and portfolio analysis
Maintain docket deadlines and ensure timely completion of prosecution tasks
Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent prosecution
Experience with software-related patent applications is highly preferred
Prior experience in client counseling or portfolio strategy (preferred)
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Availability to provide patent prosecution writing samples and academic transcripts
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in one of the following:
Computer Engineering
Computer Science
Electrical Engineering
Physics
Or a related technical field
Active registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Admission to a state bar in good standing (California or Washington preferred)
Strong legal writing and verbal communication skills
In-depth knowledge of software technologies such as:
Cloud computing
Cybersecurity/encryption
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Bioinformatics
Mobile applications
Networking and databases
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Skilled in patent management systems and IP software tools
Reduced billable hour requirement (non-partnership track)
