Job Overview:
A respected law firm located in Lake Success, NY, is seeking an experienced Trusts & Estates Litigation Associate to join its growing practice group. The role is centered around handling a variety of Surrogate’s Court proceedings, with an emphasis on contested probate, fiduciary accountings, and guardianship matters. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with highly experienced litigators in a collaborative, client-focused environment, with room to grow and develop a personal book of business.

Duties:

• Manage contested estate and probate litigation in Surrogate’s Court

• Oversee fiduciary accountings and administration matters

• Represent clients in guardianship litigation and related elder law proceedings

• Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, and prepare motions and memoranda

• Appear for court conferences, depositions, and hearings

• Collaborate with senior litigators on complex matters and appeals

• Maintain consistent client communication and build long-term relationships

• Contribute to firm development efforts and client outreach initiatives

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience handling estate litigation, contested probate, or Surrogate’s Court matters

• Admitted to practice law in the State of New York

• Familiarity with fiduciary accounting, estate administration, and guardianship proceedings

• Exceptional writing, research, and oral advocacy skills

• Proven ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously

• Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented

• Comfortable working independently and within a team structure

• A modest portable book of business is welcomed but not required

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

• Active license to practice law in New York State

Skills:

• Legal writing and research proficiency

• Knowledge of Surrogate’s Court procedures and litigation strategy

• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities

• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook
