Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Special Counsel in New York City, NY, to support its Health Law and Corporate sections, focusing on data privacy and cybersecurity. This role involves a blend of health regulatory counseling and corporate transactions, with a target allocation of approximately 60% Health Law and 40% Corporate.

Duties

• Provide senior-level support on HIPAA, privacy, digital health, cybersecurity, and AI matters.
• Manage and execute diligence processes and assess privacy and cybersecurity risks.
• Advise on regulatory and compliance implications and draft privacy and security provisions.
• Support compliance program development and assist with technology contracting and vendor risk issues.
• Collaborate with partners, associates, clients, and cross-disciplinary teams.

Requirements

• 6+ years of relevant experience in privacy, cybersecurity, AI, digital health, or related fields.
• Admitted to or eligible for admission to the MA, NY, or DC Bar.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and responsibilities.
• Experience with privacy and cybersecurity aspects of M&A and private equity transactions.

Education

• JD or LLM from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

• CIPP or other IAPP certifications are a plus.

Skills

• Strong technical experience and excellent judgment.
• Ability to translate complex legal issues into practical advice.
• Familiarity with HIPAA/privacy compliance and global privacy regimes.
• Interest in AI regulatory developments and emerging AI governance frameworks.
