A respected law firm based in Greenwich, CT, is seeking an experienced Patent Attorney with strong scientific expertise in life sciences. The role involves strategic and hands-on engagement in patent prosecution, IP portfolio development, and cross-functional collaboration with legal and technical teams. Duties:
Assess technical innovations to determine patentability and develop protection strategies
Draft and file U.S. patent applications across a range of life science technologies
Lead and manage the prosecution of U.S. patent applications; coordinate with international agents for foreign filings
Contribute to IP due diligence reviews and strategic analysis of patent portfolios
Perform in-depth research and analysis on legal and scientific IP issues
Guide clients and internal teams on patent-related business decisions
Act as an internal liaison on cross-functional matters and engage with external legal advisors when needed
Requirements:
At least 4 years of hands-on experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or corporate settings
Background in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or related medical device sectors
Admission to a state bar in good standing (required for attorney role)
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (or actively pursuing registration)
Familiarity with mechanical or electrical patent work is a plus
Strong legal and scientific acumen with a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Education:
Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering)
Certifications:
USPTO registration (or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar)
Skills:
Deep understanding of IP law and life sciences technologies
Strong analytical and technical writing capabilities
Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team
Adaptability in handling diverse patent-related assignments
