Job Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview:
A well-established law firm based in Stamford, CT, is looking to expand its Intellectual Property team by engaging an experienced Patent Agent through a professional recruitment partnership. The position focuses on patent strategy, prosecution, and portfolio development within the life sciences domain. This is an opportunity to work closely with a dynamic group of IP professionals on cutting-edge innovations across the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device sectors.

Duties:

• Assess the patentability of scientific and technological developments in diverse subject areas

• Draft and file patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

• Manage patent prosecution efforts domestically and collaborate with foreign associates for international filings

• Contribute to intellectual property diligence and strategic patent planning

• Perform technical and legal research related to intellectual property matters

• Advise internal teams and external stakeholders on IP strategies and best practices

• Engage in cross-functional collaboration and serve as a point of contact for external counsel

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of direct experience in patent prosecution, preferably within a law firm or in-house legal department

• Demonstrated expertise in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical device technologies

• Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (or pending eligibility)

• Knowledge of mechanical or electrical technologies is advantageous

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities

• Proven capacity to work both independently and within collaborative teams

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences field (e.g., biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology)

Certifications:

• USPTO registration (or the ability to sit for the Patent Bar in the near term)

Skills:

• Deep scientific literacy in life sciences and related technologies

• Strong analytical, organizational, and project management capabilities

• Proficiency in patent drafting, prosecution strategy, and portfolio analysis

• Clear, concise, and professional communication across technical and legal audiences
