A law firm in Kansas City, MO is seeking an experienced Railroad Litigation Attorney to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing railroad civil litigation cases, working directly with clients, taking depositions, and appearing in court. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in railroad civil litigation cases, including all facets of pre-trial and trial preparation.
  • Manage and handle own caseload, including taking and defending fact and expert depositions.
  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and legal documents.
  • Engage and prepare expert witnesses, including expert disclosures and reporting.
  • Interact directly with clients, insurance claims representatives, and other stakeholders for case assessment and strategy.
  • Oversee large document productions and database matters.
  • Attend and participate in court proceedings, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Delegate tasks to and manage the work of paralegals.
  • Contribute to marketing and business development efforts, including drafting publications and legal presentations.
  • Maintain and manage case files efficiently and effectively.
  • Travel as required for case-related matters.

Requirements:

  • Currently licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in defending railroad civil litigation cases.
  • Proven case management skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to manage a high caseload and work independently.
  • Competence in handling complex pre-trial discovery and motions.
  • Experience in first-chair mediation and trial/arbitration preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and delegating tasks to paralegals.
  • Marketing and business development experience or interest.
  • Ability to travel as required for case-related activities.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Missouri.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional research and writing abilities.
  • Competent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational and case management skills.
  • Experience with large-scale document production and database management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid working environment.
  • Capable of working in a business casual yet professional setting.
  • Ability to interact with clients and insurance representatives professionally.
