A prominent law firm based in Cleveland, OH is seeking a seasoned legal professional with deep experience in affordable housing matters. This role centers on handling multifaceted real estate and financing transactions related to community development and housing projects. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in tax credit financing and a demonstrated ability to manage complex deal structures across various stakeholders.
Led and coordinated comprehensive affordable housing transactions from initiation through closing
Draft, negotiate, and review a broad array of transactional documents
Advise clients on regulatory frameworks, compliance strategies, and funding mechanisms
Conduct detailed due diligence and risk assessments
Interface directly with developers, investors, public agencies, and financial institutions
Manage deal timelines and oversee junior team members when needed
Structure transactions involving Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), including both 4% and 9% credits
Facilitate property acquisitions, refinancings, dispositions, and investor exits
Offer strategic planning guidance during the early stages of project development
Minimum of 6 years of legal practice focused on affordable housing, tax credit finance, or real estate development
Deep familiarity with LIHTC-based transactions and public-private development models
Experience working with multiple sides of a deal (e.g., developers, lenders, investors) is advantageous
Strong transaction management and client-facing experience required
Active license to practice law in Ohio or ability to obtain admission promptly
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited, nationally recognized law school
Admission to the Ohio State Bar (required)
Excellent negotiation and drafting abilities
Confident communicator with polished interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and time management capabilities
Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
High attention to detail and strategic thinking
