Job Overview:

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of immigration law, especially in removal defense, and a proven track record of successfully representing clients in immigration court. They will advocate for clients facing deportation, conduct legal research, provide expert counsel, and collaborate with colleagues for comprehensive case management.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before immigration courts, including master calendar and individual hearings.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and prepare necessary filings, motions, and briefs for immigration court cases.
  • Provide expert legal counsel to clients facing deportation, including developing strategies for relief from removal.
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for court appearances, ensuring they understand the process and what to expect.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to ensure comprehensive case management.
  • Stay updated with changes in immigration laws, policies, and procedures affecting removal defense.
  • Advocate vigorously on behalf of clients, protecting their rights and pursuing all available forms of relief.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed case files and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing regular updates on case status and addressing questions or concerns.
  • Participate in firm meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar.
  • 1-2 years of experience handling removal proceedings and representing clients in immigration court.
  • Strong understanding of immigration laws, regulations, and procedures related to removal defense.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with clients facing deportation.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are preferred.
