A law firm seeks an experienced litigator to join its Syosset, NY, office. The selected attorney will collaborate with a dynamic team handling high‐stakes defense matters in both State and Federal Courts.
Duties:
Defend a varied docket of high‐exposure matters from inception through resolution
Serve as monitoring counsel for excess insurers and provide appellate or trial support as needed
Manage cases in areas such as premises liability, catastrophic injury and wrongful death, New York Labor Law and construction, maritime, products liability, and transportation/trucking
Draft and respond to pleadings, written discovery, and dispositive motions
Conduct and defend depositions of party and non‐party witnesses
Formulate and implement comprehensive defense strategies, including innovative approaches not commonly advanced
Prepare detailed client updates and collaborate with senior trial attorneys on case milestones
Requirements:
5–8 years of defense litigation experience, including managing an individual caseload through trial (trial experience is a plus but not mandatory)
Demonstrated ability to craft and argue discovery and dispositive motions
Proven aptitude for taking and defending depositions
Strong writing, analytical, and creative problem‐solving capabilities
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interfacing with clients, insurers, and colleagues
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Admission to practice in New York State
Admission (or willingness to gain admission) to the U.S. District Courts in New York
Admission (or willingness to gain admission) in additional jurisdictions is preferred
Skills:
Exceptional legal research and writing proficiency
Ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously, from file opening to trial
Capacity to work collaboratively with supervising partners and support staff
Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Innovative thinking to develop effective defense plans
Comfort presenting at hearings, mediations, and other court proceedings
