Job Title: Patent Litigation Counsel

Job Location: Los Angeles, CA

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm located in Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Patent Litigation Counsel to join its Intellectual Property litigation team. This role is ideal for a seasoned legal professional with a deep understanding of patent law and a strong technical background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines. The selected candidate will take lead roles in high-stakes litigation matters, advising innovative clients across various sectors, while collaborating within a dynamic and diverse team of legal practitioners.

Duties:

• Manage all phases of patent litigation from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal

• Draft complex pleadings, motions, briefs, and legal memoranda for state and federal court proceedings

• Prepare and respond to infringement and invalidity contentions and claim charts

• Handle Markman hearings and claim construction

• Lead fact discovery, expert discovery, and deposition strategy

• Draft and argue dispositive and procedural motions

• Oversee inter partes review proceedings before the USPTO

• Coordinate litigation strategy with clients, expert witnesses, and co-counsel

• Train, mentor, and supervise junior associates and litigation support staff

• Prepare appellate briefs for the Federal Circuit

• Represent clients in arbitration and mediation as needed

Requirements:

• Minimum of 10 years of focused patent litigation experience

• Demonstrated trial and pretrial litigation experience in complex IP disputes

• Substantial exposure to high-tech patent cases involving software, hardware, or electrical systems

• Proven track record in drafting and responding to complex discovery

• Prior experience leading teams and managing litigation dockets

• Superior analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field preferred

Certifications:

• Admission to practice in California

• USPTO registration preferred or equivalent experience in IP litigation

Skills:

• Deep understanding of U.S. patent law and IP litigation strategies

• Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate and resolve complex legal issues

• Effective communicator with exceptional writing and presentation skills

• Skilled in mentoring and team leadership

• Comfortable working in a high-pressure, fast-paced litigation environment

• Proficiency in legal research and case management systems
