Job Title: Litigation Associate Attorney

Job Overview:

A law firm in Morgantown, West Virginia, is currently seeking a driven and strategically minded Associate Attorney to support its litigation team. This role is remote-first but requires in-state licensure and availability for in-person court appearances as needed. The ideal candidate brings strong commercial litigation experience, preferably with exposure to oil and gas matters, and demonstrates tenacity in mastering new legal domains.

Duties:

• Handle case files from inception to resolution with minimal supervision

• Draft, file, and argue motions in both state and federal court

• Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, pleadings, and discovery responses

• Take and defend depositions

• Collaborate with senior attorneys on trial preparation and courtroom strategy

• Maintain direct communication with clients and participate in negotiations

• Ensure adherence to litigation timelines and court procedural rules

Requirements:

• Active license to practice law in West Virginia

• Based in or willing to relocate to West Virginia; local presence required for hearings

• Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial litigation

• Prior exposure to oil and gas-related legal matters preferred

• Demonstrated ability to manage caseload and meet deadlines

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

• Law Review or similar editorial experience is advantageous

Certifications:

• Admission to the West Virginia State Bar

Skills:
