Job Overview: A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney with 1-3 years of experience to practice Environmental and Land Use Law in Northern California. This position offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment focused on sustainable development and public interest advocacy. This is a hybrid remote position based in either South San Francisco or Sacramento, California.

Duties:

• Conduct factual investigations and legal research to support case development.
• Collaborate with supervising attorneys and professional staff on legal and regulatory issues.
• Participate in brief writing, motion practice, and oral advocacy.
• Represent clients before federal and state regulatory bodies, municipalities, and local government agencies.
• Engage in settlement negotiations and litigation.
• Work with scientists and technical experts to develop comprehensive legal strategies.
• Participate in regulatory proceedings, rulemaking, and legislative hearings.
• Travel for casework, seminars, hearings, and client meetings as required.

Requirements:

• 1-3 years of substantive experience in California environmental and land use law.
• Strong desire to advocate for sustainable development and community benefits.
• Commitment to public interest work and environmental protection.
• Excellent research, analytic, writing, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and good judgment in legal matters.
• Ability to work in a collegial, diverse, and inclusive team environment.
• Willingness to travel for legal work and client needs.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active California Bar membership.

Certifications:

• California Bar license in good standing.
