Position Summary Founded in 1947 CEB is one of California's oldest and most prestigious legal information and continuing legal education providers. CEB publishes judgments of California case law, practical guidance for attorneys and, CLE all in a variety of practice areas and formats e.g. print, online and, in-person.
Under general direction, this position is responsible for the full range of project management skills, new content development, original writing, legal editing, and legal research and analysis of both primary and secondary law. Incumbent must ensure accuracy, currency, practice orientation, and balance in CEB content. Incumbent is responsible for developing new products and repurposing existing content; for contributor recruitment, development, and good contributor relations; for providing Marketing with product benefits; and for regular participation in social networking and state bar activities.

Responsible for project management of new titles, new editions and updates including meeting deadlines, creating and maintaining schedules, and overall responsibility for adhering to budgets.
Identify problems early and propose solutions and improvements that increase the efficiency of planning, creating, updating, maintaining, and curating content.
Ensure quality of assigned publications meets or exceeds CEB standards by reviewing content, assessing quality, and identifying potential gaps in coverage.
Assign, monitor and review legal editing projects of Legal Editor and provide feedback to Legal Editor and Content Development Manager as necessary.
Assist in developing new, updated and repurposed content in assigned substantive area in collaboration with Content Development Manager and in setting strategies and setting direction for use of this content.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with contributors, including recruiting and developing a fresh and satisfied group of expert contributors who make positive contributions to new and updated CEB content.
Recommend production process improvements when appropriate.
Act as mentor and/or train staff on legal research procedures.

Perform legal research and analysis, which includes monitoring legal developments, and identifying, analyzing and evaluating new statutory, rule, case law, or other developments relevant to CEB content.
Summarize and incorporate new developments into electronic manuscripts and Reporters as requested.
Locate, identify, and update all legal authorities cited in CEB content; analyze cited authorities and discussion in manuscript; correct legal inaccuracies in the manuscript and errors in citation style; verify that all statements of law in manuscript have supporting authority.
Edit legal content, rewriting and reorganizing as necessary. Incorporate legal research to emphasize practice-orientation and accessibility. Ensure legal accuracy and adequacy, clarity, completeness and timeliness of coverage of issues, including substantive and procedural legal discussion, practice strategies and tactics.
Write original materials, including complex content, as needed.
Edit and draft original forms and update forms to reflect developments when appropriate.
Determine relevance, thoroughness, and practicality of original content and forms.
Ensure that all content is written in a tone and style that follows CEB guidelines for the delivery format. When repurposing existing content, adapt tone and style as appropriate to meet CEB guidelines for all delivery formats.

Participate in social media to promote CEB products in legal community and better understand legal environment.
Participate in practice group Advisory Committee meetings as appropriate.
Keep abreast of current industry trends and activities within assigned substantive area through activities such as social media networking, customer contact/outreach, serving as representative to professional organizations, such as State Bar Section or local bar associations, or becoming member in a specialty legal association.
Attend CEB and other CLE programs in assigned substantive area.
Analyze legal trends and customer needs and use that analysis to develop and assist in presentation of CEB programs in assigned substantive area.

J.D. and admitted to State Bar of California or other jurisdiction.
Extensive knowledge of relevant substantive law area -- minimum of 2+ years of related law practice experience or 2+ years of legal editing experience in Trusts and Estates, Elder Law, Tax, or Probate Litigation.
Excellent writing and editing skills; demonstrated command of the English language.
Excellent legal research skills including the use of electronic online research tools, such as Westlaw and Lexis, and citation verification programs.
Excellent project management skills, including supervision of internal staff and resources and effective management of relations with contributors and co-workers.
Highly effective communication and collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to quickly digest new areas of the law in order to drive high level legal analysis.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Highly organized and self-motivated with demonstrated initiative and creativity.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and budgets, and to meet tight deadlines.
